Steel Road Plates, Ground Protection and Access Roads

MB Tôlage

Now a fully independent department within MB Groupe, MB Tôlage guarantees safe, stable ground surfaces and reliable protection for your site access routes.

Depending on your specific needs, we offer the rental and installation of three types of ground covering: steel road plates for creating tracks or platforms in areas inaccessible to your machines, synthetic road plates that are more flexible and ideal for protecting paved surfaces, and wooden draglines, sturdier than metal plates, for particularly muddy areas.

STEEL ROAD PLATES

Our steel road plates are designed for creating temporary access roads, work platforms, and trench crossings. Two models are intended for heavy-duty traffic, while four crossing plate types are available to meet specific project requirements based on load capacity, usage frequency, and ground conditions.

Road Plates

  • Type 1: 5000 × 1500 × 10 mm, 600 kg
  • Type 2: 5000 × 1500 × 15 mm, 900 kg

Crossing Plates

  • Type 3: 2500 × 1250 × 15 mm, 375 kg
  • Type 4: 3000 × 1500 × 15 mm, 540 kg
  • Type 5: 3000 × 1500 × 35 mm, 1250 kg
  • Type 6: 2500 × 1250 × 10 mm, 250 kg
ToSynthetiques

SYNTHETIC PLATES

Smaller and lighter than traditional steel plates. Thanks to their integrated handles, they can be installed quickly and easily by hand. We offer two formats with different load capacities:

  • Type 1: 2400 × 1200 × 20 mm, 54 kg per mat, 80-ton load capacity, 6 handles, and a coarse double-sided anti-slip surface.
  • Type 2: 2000 × 1000 × 20 mm, 30 kg per mat, 30-ton load capacity, 4 handles, and a fine double-sided anti-slip surface.

We also provide storage racks with a capacity of 20 to 25 mats, making handling, transport, and storage easier.

CRANE MATS / DRAGLINE MATS

More robust than steel road plates, dragline mats are commonly used as flooring in particularly wet or challenging ground conditions. Five dragline mat formats are available:

  • Type 1 (510): 5000 × 1000 × 100 mm, 600 kg
  • Type 2 (515): 5000 × 1000 × 150 mm, 900 kg
  • Type 3 (520): 5000 × 1000 × 200 mm, 1200 kg
  • Type 4 (420): 4000 × 1000 × 200 mm, 950 kg
  • Type 5 (620): 6000 × 1000 × 200 mm, 1450 kg

FAQ

Which type of ground protection plate should I choose for my construction site?

The choice mainly depends on the type of ground, the type and weight of the vehicles or machinery, the frequency of traffic and the duration of the project. MB Tôlage offers several solutions: steel ground protection plates, synthetic plates, SignaRoad composite plates and wooden dragline mats. Our team can advise you on the most suitable solution for the specific requirements of your site.

Each solution is designed to meet different requirements.

  • Steel plates are particularly suitable for temporary access routes and heavy machinery traffic.
  • Synthetic plates are lightweight and suitable for ground protection and access routes requiring quick installation.
  • SignaRoad composite plates combine strength, traction and a connection system to create temporary access routes particularly suited to intensive traffic.
  • Wooden dragline mats help distribute loads and are particularly suitable for ground with low load-bearing capacity.

Depending on the site conditions, several solutions can also be combined.

The nature and load-bearing capacity of the ground are essential factors when choosing a ground protection solution. Stable ground, grassland, muddy ground or marshy terrain do not require the same solution. The weight of the machinery and the frequency of traffic must also be taken into account. Based on the characteristics of the site, MB Tôlage can recommend the most suitable solution.

On ground with low load-bearing capacity, the priority is to distribute the loads and limit vehicles and machinery from sinking into the ground. Depending on the conditions, the use of dragline mats, composite plates or a combination of several solutions may be recommended. For particularly challenging ground conditions, MB Tôlage can assess the site constraints and recommend a suitable solution.

The choice depends on the weight of the vehicles, their axle load, the frequency of traffic and the load-bearing capacity of the ground. Steel plates, dragline mats and SignaRoad composite plates can be used to create access routes for heavy machinery, provided that the solution is correctly sized for the site conditions. If in doubt, we recommend providing us with the type and weight of the machinery that will use the access route.

Equipment can be collected and returned at our depots between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. To ensure quick loading and allow us to prepare the required equipment, we recommend informing us in advance of your planned arrival date and time, as well as the type and quantity of plates to be collected or returned. For any loading outside our usual opening hours, please contact our team in advance to check availability.

Yes, but sloping terrain requires particular attention to traction, plate stability, the connection system between the plates and the type of vehicles using the access route. Certain solutions, particularly SIGNAROAD plates with their high-grip surface and interconnected system, can be especially suitable for this type of access. However, the slope and ground conditions must be assessed before selecting the appropriate solution.

The load capacity varies depending on the type of plate, its dimensions, thickness, ground conditions and how the load is applied. There is therefore no single maximum load that applies to every situation. To determine the appropriate solution, MB Tôlage takes into account the type of vehicles or machinery, their weight, axle load and the characteristics of the ground.

This depends on the condition of the ground and the solution used. A relatively level surface free of major obstacles generally makes installation easier and improves the stability of the plates. On ground with low load-bearing capacity, additional preparation or the use of several layers of protection may be necessary. Photos or a site visit can help us assess the situation before installation.

Yes. When the configuration of the construction site requires it, our team can visit the site to assess the ground conditions and access constraints. This visit allows us to evaluate factors such as the type and load-bearing capacity of the ground, the dimensions of the access route or platform, the machinery that will use it, and any specific constraints. Based on this assessment, we can advise you and recommend the most suitable ground protection solution and the required quantities.

Yes. MB Tôlage offers a complete solution including the delivery, installation, removal and collection of ground protection plates. Thanks to our vehicles and handling equipment, our teams can also relocate the plates as the project progresses. This allows the client to entrust the entire management of temporary access routes to a single point of contact.

MB Tôlage operates mainly in Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France and Germany, depending on the location and scale of the project. Thanks to our various transport and handling capabilities, we can provide delivery as well as installation and removal of the plates directly on site. For projects outside our usual service areas, please send us the site address so that we can assess your request.

To provide you with a suitable quote, we ideally need the construction site address, the dimensions of the access route or platform to be created, the expected rental period, the type of ground, and the vehicles or machinery that will travel over the plates. Photos, plans or additional information about site access conditions can also help us determine the most suitable solution and the required quantities.
