Ground Protection and Temporary Access for Construction Sites,
Events and Industrial Sites

Protecting the ground, creating a temporary access route or setting up a technical working platform requires a suitable solution. To meet these requirements, MB Tôlage is the first company in Belgium to offer SignaRoad composite mats, a technology developed in the United States. Designed for demanding sites, this solution combines strength, rapid installation and safety.

Why Install Ground Protection or Create Temporary Access?

When a site needs to accommodate multiple vehicles, construction equipment or thousands of people, the ground is subjected to significant mechanical stress.

Soft ground, lawns, meadows or wet surfaces can quickly deteriorate under heavy loads or repeated traffic.

To minimise the impact, installing ground protection or creating temporary access helps to:

  • protect natural or landscaped ground
  • facilitate vehicle and equipment movement
  • reduce the risk of vehicles or machinery getting bogged down
  • reduce reinstatement costs after construction work or events
  • improve safety for operators and site users

This is why, in addition to its existing solutions, MB Tôlage now offers a new generation of composite mats designed to meet the demands of the most challenging environments.

A Unique Solution in Belgium

Manufactured from recycled and fully recyclable HDPE (high-density polyethylene), the mats from Signature Systems offer an excellent balance between durability and ease of handling.

This material provides high resistance to impact, UV exposure, adverse weather conditions and temperature fluctuations, ensuring consistent performance regardless of operating conditions.

Their Lock Pin interlocking system enables the mats to be assembled quickly and securely. Once locked together, they form a stable, continuous surface that distributes loads effectively, minimises movement between individual mats and reduces the risk of ground settlement.

Thanks to their low weight, SignaRoad mats allow up to 700 m² to be transported on a single truck. This is a major advantage for optimising logistics, simplifying handling operations and reducing the number of truck movements required to and from construction sites or operational sites.

The Benefits of SignaRoad Composite Mats

Whether used for ground protection or temporary access, our mats offer numerous technical advantages:

Up to 280 tonnes/m² Load-Bearing Capacity

Thanks to their design and interlocking system, the mats distribute loads effectively while reducing the risk of ground settlement and damage.

A Slip-Resistant Surface

The textured surface improves traction for both vehicles and pedestrians, helping to ensure safer movement on construction sites and at events.

A Light Colour That Reduces Heat Build-Up

Thanks to their design and interlocking system, the mats distribute loads effectively while reducing the risk of ground settlement and damage.

Ground Protection and Temporary Access Solutions for All Sectors

Our solution is suitable for a wide range of industries.

  1. Festivals, concerts and major events:
traffic routes, technical platforms and event areas
  2. Construction and civil engineering:
temporary access routes, working areas and traffic routes
  3. Industry:
temporary access for maintenance operations, installation work and one-off interventions
  4. Energy:
access to energy infrastructure, construction operations and inspection work

A Belgian First at Les Ardentes

The first official use of SignaRoad mats in Belgium took place during the 20th edition of Les Ardentes.

Alongside the more than 3,000 steel road plates already deployed by MB Tôlage across the festival site, campsite and car parks, our composite mats were installed in front of the Phoenix Main Stage.

This installation addressed two key challenges:

  • Protecting the ground during the installation and dismantling of event infrastructure
  • Ensuring the comfort and safety of the tens of thousands of festival-goers expected each day.

This project perfectly demonstrates our ability to meet the demands of large-scale events while paving the way for many other applications.

FAQ

In Which Sectors Can SignaRoad Composite Mats Be Used?

SignaRoad mats are suitable for a wide range of industries, including construction, civil engineering, industry, energy, logistics, events, festivals, concerts and sporting events. They provide a fast and efficient way to create temporary access routes, traffic lanes and working surfaces.

Thanks to their design and interlocking system, SignaRoad mats can distribute loads of up to 280 tonnes/m², depending on ground conditions.

Yes. They are specifically designed to protect lawns, meadows, soft ground and unstable terrain by distributing loads effectively and reducing the risk of ground settlement.

Composite mats offer several advantages: they are lighter and easier to transport and install, while providing excellent load distribution capacity. They are particularly well suited to sensitive ground and events open to the public. Depending on the specific requirements of your project, the MB Tôlage team will recommend the most suitable solution, whether composite mats, steel road plates, synthetic ground protection mats or dragline mats.
